Happy New Years!!  I did 60 mins on the elliptical barefoot, I decided if I am going to go to the zero drop shoes I should do that on the elliptical too.  I felt good so I did a 15 min warmup and then did 3 mins med/hard and 2 mins hard for 45 mins then got on the bike and did and easy spin while I lifted my upper body.  I have to multi task to get in the weights.  Then stretched for 10 mins.

Got homeopathic injections in my glute for sciatic and hammy, it is sore so i think i will take a couple days off.  He also told me the extreme stretching for the hamstrings is not good for a healing sciatic, it make the sciatic tether against stuff and cause more pain.

Got my zero drop shoes yesterday I will probably go out tomorrow and try a little running and see how it feels.  Crossing my fingers:)

Started with 15 min warmup on the elliptical and then went out for 2 miles with half mile of running.  The jury is still out whether I'm ready or not, although it has not seemed to aggravate anything further.  I feel about 65% better than 2 months ago when I tried running.  Then I did 25 more mins on the elliptical and 20 mins on the bike.

My sciatic hurts down my leg but I have low back pain as well. Babies just take a tole on the body. I am amazed at the homeopathic injections that Dr. Brady does I have only had one back there and I feel so much better and plus I am running. I started to wonder if that would ever happen again. I do think the zero drop shoes helps too.

Warmed up on the elliptical for 40 mins and then went out for 3.8 miles running 3 of those.  then stretched.  I have decided that I am just going to take if day by day with the running, I get super discouraged when my back acts up because I want to run a certain amount but if I just know that it is different day to day and not expect anything then being able to do something is great.  Had minimal back pain and felt good after I got into it.

Got my injections yesterday and he got bigger longer needles to get deep into the muscle.  Sounds fun huh.  Was sore so I only stretched yesterday and have muscle soreness today from the injections but SI and sciatic feel good.  Now I will start on trying to get full rotation back into my mid back area, this affects the SI as well when you run and mine is bad.

Today I went and ran around the OFC track, started and ended with a .5 mile of walking and ran 4 miles.  felt good just hate pushing a jogger around in circles but it went fast.  Stretched and then did a 40 mins total body circuit training.

Josse - different runners visit my mind at different times, and you happened to be the visitor this morning. All of a sudden it started bothering me that with a 16.3 100 meter sprint ability you cannot run 38:00 10 K, and that I do not know why. Have you ever had low iron problems?

Sasha I have had iron problems off and on through my life. Yes I do think I have the capability of running a 38:00 10k and will do it some day. Not anytime in the near future, I suspect it will take me at least a year and a half to 2 years to get back into great racing shape again. So for now I am just happy I can run.

Such nice weather, it makes me want spring.  Got some more homeopathic injections but this time he focused on my mid back and did some in my sacrum.  Wasn't going to run but I felt fine and was able to go out at 5 for a nice 5 miles.   Felt good and ran a little faster than usual.  Came home and did ball squats and ball abs.  Dr. Brady showed me some squats to build my butt, which he says is way to small to support my long back and it needs to be stronger.

Another 6 miles today,  muscle are feeling extra tight in the left glute and hammy.  Went from will's up to the mouth of the canyon.  I was going to go further but saw some guy standing on the path in street clothes just staring at me.  I stopped and stretched my claves deciding if I wanted to go up past this guy.  He then bent down and started putting stuff in his pockets, it looked like rocks.   I didn't have a good feeling about any of this.  Then this guy on a bike came down and passed him, he stopped and told me that guy and a big long knife and to not go up any further.   That was enough for me to turn around and go back.  I did call the police and reported this.  Got back to wills and added on another mile.  Got home and stretched and did 45 mins of pilates.

Thank you for reporting him. I hope the other people who saw him did too. I hope you got a good look and gave a good description so they can find him. I've never seen anyone with a knife before. I've had people pop out of the bushes after me, had people obviously drugged out try and detain/talk to me, and a weirdo in a truck follow me with his dog and allowed his dog to attack mine. But a knife? WOW, I am so grateful you have good instincts, and thank goodness for that biker. There have been so many homeless type people attacking runners around here. I'll take you to Bob's Army Navy if you want. Not that mace or a switchblade are the perfect weapons, but they are better than nothing if you're caught off guard. I am so glad you are ok. I hope someone finds him and gets him off the street soon.

Met up with Marie and the sojourners group.  We did trails, which I was excited to do but I am so out of shape on the hills plus there was snow on them and it was cold.  And it was uphill for the first 3 miles, my pace on those was between 13 (on the really steep stuff) and 10 min. mile.  Then it flattens out and is rolling and I felt good and ran in the 8-9 range then on the downhill and flat canal back to the car I ran in the mid 8's and even had a 7:50.  Was a good run but I am tired.  Stretching.

Who cancels a race due to weather?  I have never had a race cancel, but as I was driving to the 5k this morning I got a text that it was canceled due to the weather.  What it was only a light snow and wasn't even sticking on the roads.  What ever!  I still was going to run, met Ericka down and the park that it was going to be at and we just ran our 13 miles.  Did 10 with Ericka and the last 3 on my own.  Felt pretty good, except I could feel my hammy/sciatic at the end but it does that sometimes so I am not worried.  Came home and did Bi's, Tri's , and shoulders with Ericka and some good stretching.

Please invite me again next time you guys go. I've been thinking today as I was deciding about going to PT. Would you really recommend Dr. Brady over Steve O? Woke still feeling sick, but better than I did the day before.  I decided I was good to run come evening so I went out.  The weather was perfect and I felt great.  Not expecting this was a plus.  I haven't felt this good for a long, long time, probably before I was pregnant.  It was so awesome.  Lately running in the 9's has been my comfortable pace but for some reason this run felt so easy and effortless, with an avg. pace being 8:11.  I started in with an 8:30 which my usual warm up pace is well over 9's.  I got quicker and quicker as the miles went by with the last few being under 8's.  Wow it felt good to run like that.  I will probably pay for it on tomorrow mornings run but oh well it was worth it.

Decided to do a 5k to see were I am at.  Warmed up with Ericka 4.5 it was snowing, then Melody joined for some and then Michelle made and we ran some more because the race was going to start much later than we thought.  I got 6.5 miles in before the race (9:08).  The race was completely flat and had a lot of turns.   Michelle paced me and I had told her I would like to hold between 7-7:15's  she is always an awesome pacer, she keeps me focused even when I don't want to.  The race started and we had a bunch of kids go out and die pretty quick leaving just a couple of kid which we ended up passing though the race, Melody and 2 other moms.  We all ran together until about 2.5 and they were just a little bit stronger and beat me by a bit.  Yes even Melody 8 weeks postpartum.

1-6:59

2-6:55

3-6:56  Was starting to really feel it as was glad Michelle was there to pull me through.

Finished 4th with no guys in front of us.

Ran the Provo city half but wasn't reg.  my goal was to just get in a good solid training run and run faster than last year 20 weeks prego.  I knew that wouldn't be hard.  Warmed up 2 with Ericka and started the race running the 1st mile with Mac, Aubury and Holly but knew I would not be able to hold there pace.  I had fun and helped some people to run faster than they would have.  Pooped out in the end and feel bad for the full marathoners because it is hot out there.    I ran it in a 1:42:40/7:50 so over 10 mins faster than last year, happy with that.  my splits are

Nice way to start your training! I still haven't run today and am still debating my workout plan. I printed off 4 different ones that vary in mileage and intensity. I'm with you on taking it week by week. These first couple weeks may be day by day for me... I wish my endurance was as great as yours!

From josse on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 21:35:58 from 75.196.140.50

It will come, Ya I sat down to work out a schedule and just wasn't into it. I just planned out my long runs, thats the most important anyway. What are you thinking of doing for speed? and what day? I think we should alternate between 800-1600, long tempo's, and hill repeats.

From runningafterbabies on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 23:40:14 from 71.195.219.247

The schedule I am trying to follow is a mix of an advanced training schedule I found on Runners world.com and the training schedule I used for Boston. It includes hills (up and downhill repeats), long intervals up to one mile and tempo runs. The mileage is probably low for you but that would be easy for you to add on. I will try to remember to email it to you (baby is crying now or I would do it now...) Text me if I forget.

Brought the family up to Ogden with Ericka, still nursing a baby so I had to bring them.  I prefer not to cause I don't get sleep with everyone there.  My baby didn't want to sleep in the crib at the hotel so I had to put him in bed with me.   I didn't sleep well and haven't slept well for the last couple nights.  I was feeling pretty hammered when I got up.  But I didn't feel as bad as I thought I would.  Rode the bus up with Ericka, the temps weren't as bad as I thought they were going to be.  It was actually perfect running temps.  We sat around for a while and then warmed up a mile.  I was going to go more but didn't.  They started the race about 10 mins. late.  Going into the race I just wanted to run a solid 10 miles and I thought I was capable of running a 1:37.  I also wanted to start it out easy the first couple of miles.  I feel like I did a pretty good job at accomplishing everything I set out to do.  Started the race in shorts, tank and gloves and took the gloves off around 6.

1-7:48 felt easy

2-7:41 still just nice and easy

3-7:30

4-7:23

5-7:03 and the down hill starts:)

6-7:21 still feel good

7-7:16

8-7:10

9-6:59 picking people off

10-6:55 still picking people off

11-7:22 down hill is all over and I know I have to dig deep to keep it together cause my legs are starting to feel it.

12-7:39  pretending I feel better than the next person so I can pass them faster than they are going, but this is hard.

13-7:37 still able to pass some people:)

.22 1:33  kick it in (watch got .22 for the end, my watch always get this course long) racing a guy that just doesn't want me to beat him.  We cross together and I my legs almost give out.

I was pleased with this and feel I am on my way.......

Have you heard anything about it? Know anyone that could recommend it? ce.uvu.edu/summer (it's called training fro beginning to marathon runners). Let me know if you hear anything.

From LuzyLew on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 13:22:26 from 208.187.197.42

It's a once a week course at UVU, taught by Hawk. Here's a better link:

Well I probably wouldn't go take it, seeing I have heard everything Hawk has to say about marathoning and i don't agree with a lot of what he says.

I know you've spent a lot of time around him, so I wondered. I just got excited about a class for running.

So after the race and speed work yesterday my left hammy/sciatic thing flared up.  So I did 40 mins on the bike and 10 on the elliptical.  I don't know if I will pull off very much speed this year.  I knew going into the workout I shouldn't have done it.  So I just need to really listen to my body:(  GRRRRRR!   I went and got injection form Dr. B and it is feeling a lot better (friday) but I am scared to run.

IT band stabilizer and weight arms.

Mix of bike and elliptical for 35 mins and IT band stabilizer this is suppose to help and it seems to.  Hamstring does feel better but having it hurt like it did makes me scared to run.  Not sure if I will run tomorrow...man and I was just starting to feel my speed and endurance coming back.  This also makes me scared to race, I really wish I wouldn't have signed up for these spring halfs.

I honestly believe that the hardest part about recovering from an injury is getting over the mental part of it. I went 10 months with no pain in my ITB before I could actually do a full run without thinking and stressing about it.

After debating with myself for a long while I decided I would get up and least see how I felt.  My husband had to leave at 6:30 for work so I got up at 4 to run.  I just stayed close to home so it was little loops and running up and down long streets.  I did my first 2.5 mile loop and my hammy/glute felt good, I started slow and by the second mile 8:30's felt fine.  so i just kept running,  I did so my IT band stabilizer before in the middle and at the end of my run.  So I stopped at 10 because it thought that was a good distance and I wanted to stop on my own and not have to walk back home because something hurt.  The thing that was sore after my run was my calves.  I came home and did 20 mins on the elliptical, pilates legs, and ab ripper x and stretching.

Got up and ran by myself.  hammy is feeling better, still there but better, still holding me back:(  I went to Dr. Brady and got injections and some work done it.  Frustrated, but need to practice some patience,  I think I will not be able to do all out speed but it seem to be able to handle marathon pace stuff so I need to show self control.  This means I will not race the 5k this saturday, just run it.  And will probably not race the UV half either, just run it.  And I will hold off on registering for the hobbler half and pocatello marathon and see how my training goes.

My run was very broken up today.  Started at Springville High with Mckenzie and Aubery we did a 4 mile warmup.   Then we ran the nestle 5k, then a 3. some thing cooldown.  Then I jumped in my car and drove to the 2nd 5k I registered today, which was a fundraiser for one of my friends that has colon cancer.  Ran some before and after to total 15 miles.  My one goal today was not to over do it in the 5k's which I felt like I ran smart and didn't feel my hammy.  So I was happy about the run's today.

nestle 5k the course was totally different than it has been in the past with the 1st half being uphill and the 2nd half being down.  felt really comfortable through the race and even let people pass me on the lap around the track.  Just told myself no injury, no injury.......

Met at Marie's and ran with the girls this morning. Did a mile before and after by myself. My Hammy and sciatic felt fantastic better than it has felt in a long time.  Pretty weird because it was burny all weekend.  But I started a couple of new thing (collagen,  tumarick, and rosehips for the vit. c and liquid chlorophyl) all this is suppose to help inflammation and stuff.  I also ice/heat all weekend and scraped, stretched and was taking a nerve tonic as well as took IB all day sunday.  So something did the trick.  I have also decided to cut out gluten to see if this will help break the inflammation cycle.

Good race, I'll start out by saying that.  Minimal hammy/sciatic pain and felt really good through 10.  my watch died at the county club with was about 10.5 so I don't know how much I died and I know I did but still picked some people off.  I was glad to see a 1:35 on the clock cause I didn't know and the 1:35 pace group was in front of me.  I will post the splits later when my watch charges.

Started the day with Mel, my stepdad picking Melody, Ericka, and myself (my mom was already in the car) and taking us to the start.  So stinkin nice not to have to ride the bus:)  Got there at 5:25 and warmed up 2 miles with Melody went to the bushes and then walked down to the start and they started right on time.  I felt really good through most of the race, tired in the end and didn't have my watch to push me but I am happy it was an improvement over Ogden.

Made it 18 miles, haven't done that in a long, long time.  I knew going in I was not going to feel that great.  I had a super emotional draining day yesterday and my anxiety level was high plus my baby didn't want to sleep last night.  But I needed to get'er done.  Met at Melody's house at the crack of dawn, she had to be home by 8 a.m. and we headed towards the canyon.  We started with our 1st mile really easy a 9:08 and then were in the mid 8 range going up the canyon and mid 7's coming down.  Took a gu at 9 and around 14.  I really struggled at the end and was so tired in my diaphragm and stomach.  I felt this starting out, which was odd.  I really wanted to stop at 14 and be done but Melody kept me going.  Went down and iced in the canal after.  Despite feeling like total crap I still am happy with the end result.

You had a great final product for that run! That is one of my favorite things about running. We push, and push and our friends and craziness carries us through what we think we may not be able to do - then we are done and pat ourselves on the back for getting it all done despite everything working against us! Nice job Josse!!

My whole hip/hammy/sciatic thing was very sore yesterday,  I did all the usually working it out, scraping and such and it does feel better today.  Man I wish I could just run and not hurt though, it is really a  bummer not to be able to run and race like I want to.  I am starting to think there is something seriously wrong with me that will never be better and marathoning will not be in my future for to much longer.

did pilates legs and stretching.

I made it 20, wow this is harder than I remember! I seem to loose it around 15 miles, just super tired esp. in the diaphragm.  I met Michelle at the crazy 4 way stop going up 4th south to hobble creek canyon, I had already done 3 miles.  We headed up hobble creek canyon and followed the left fork up.  I felt good going up but once I hit 15 I was getting tired and it was getting hot.  Took a gu at 9 and probably should have taken another.  I definitely could have used more water.  Michelle was only doing 15 so I had 2 more to do when we got back,  I was just going to be done but got a drink and did a loop that ended up being 2.  The last mile was coming up 4th south and was all uphill, really uphill.  Anyways got it done and my hip feels better than it did last week:)  I guess I shouldn't feel to bad seeing half this run was uphill and really good uphill not just provo canyon grade.

I wasn't sure what to think of this race.  I had had a sever stomach ache the night before and still had pain in my upper left quadrant (think my gallbladder is going bad).  And I really had not thought about this race and wasn't in the mood to race.  But I just thought I would go for marathon pace training run.  Woke up at 4 to feed the baby and get to the busses at 5.  Rode up with Mckenzie, Frank, Michelle, and Aubery.  We warmed up 3 miles up and down the canyon.  The race started 34 mins late due to broken down buses, thats what you get for using busses from the 70's.  But we started none the less.  This coarse is up the left side of Hobble Creek and not as fast as the other side, it is rolling down.  But I like it.

1- 6:31 a little fast but didn't feel that way

2-6:56 start with the rollers

3-6:58 feeling good and relaxed

4-7:05

5-6:48

6-7:00

7-7:04

8-7:21  start on the path which is a killer, I didn't like the transition onto the path you had to go on this dirt path and go down this super steep down.  I like the road better through here.  I was  running by myself in most of this race.  no one in front of me and no one behind me, well I didn't really check but I couldn't hear anyone.

9-7:18  Didn't fall apart as much as I usually do through 9 and 10.  I was prepared for this cause me and Michelle talked about the fall apart at 9.

10-7:12

11-7:11 out of the canyon and just using people ahead of me to keep me going.   Pulling them closer and able to pass.

12-7:21  Feeling tired and hot and I know that last mile is going to be hard, but I still am passing a bunch of guys that are in front of me

13-8:05  I was tired, hot, and falling apart.  I stopped at the water stop, which i never do and lost my sub-8 pace and just couldn't get it back.   But the guys that I pass don't pass me back

.1 6:34 pace

I really didn't know what to expect this morning, I had been up at girls camp the past couple days and was tired plus my foot is bothering me and the drive back and forth really irritated it.  When my alarm went off at 4 i really didn't want to get up, but I paid for this race so I rolled out of bed and got ready quickly and was out the door.  I decided to take some fish oils for my foot for the inflamation, I don't like to take IB to run on but that probably would have been better.  The oils made me sick durning the race, plus just being overly tired I had a horrible race.  I wanted to be done at 9, my legs were shot from the steep down hill (I have decided I don't like these super steep down hill starts they trash your legs and make you feel like crap for the finish).  I wouldn't let myself completely give up and had some help in the end.  1st I saw my friend Amanda and she ran with me for a mile, that helped me forget how awful I felt.  Then somewhere around 11 I passed Smooth and she said some words of in encouragement, I couldn't show her I wanted to quite so I smiled and ran on.  Then somewhere in the last half mile Jonathan C came along with his 1:35 sign and passed me.  I really didn't want that so I speed up and out sprinted him at the finish.  I felt mad and defeated when I finished, I know we all have these kind of races and am OK with it.  But just wish I would have felt better so I could have gotten a better time.

Those early downhill miles really make the last few miles of a race tough. You did well considering the week you had. It was nice seeing you at the finish.

more commentary on mile 9! haha. i am glad it wasn't just me -- it felt awful. i agree that the downhill was just a bit too much in the beginning. these downhill races can really beat you up. nice job on staying strong and holding off the 1:35 group. it was great to see you yesterday. i hope your foot is okay.

yes mile 9 sucked, i was actually not feeling so bad after seeing how other people felt about the race. I liked the hobbler half so much better, while it is still down hill in the beginning it is not super steep and has rolling. My foot does feel better today.

hey cheer up sometimes the opposite happens as you are well aware (YOUR UVM FIRST PLACE MARATHON FINISH :D). and sometimes a DNF happens just cause LIFE gets in the way. I guess it just makes us work harder for that great day when all fits together at the right moment. : D. all in the NAME of training.

Sorry you had a bummer race, but doing anything after being at girls camp deserves a medal of its own!!! And I hope you were not burping fish oil the entire 13.1 miles, YUCKY!

It was great to see you sprint past the 1:35 sign at the end. And you actually looked very happy so at least the picture will be cute!

I went out for just an easy run with everything feeling good (foot and sciatic anyway, I was quite sore from the race in the quads) and about 1 mile into the run I got a charly horse in my left calf that brought me to my knees.  I worked it out and stretched it and then continued to run.  Know it is very sore and I am limping on it.  Hopefully this won't take me out for to long or I think I will just scream.

yoga followed by 50 min on the bike and then arms weights and p90x abs.  Calf feeling better, still sore but I am not limping on it.  Not sure if I will run today.   Trying not to get to frustrated, this is supposed to be my hardest training weeks before my taper.  But then again training plans never go to plan and I haven't really planned much out this year.

How frustrating after you have worked SO hard to come back strong!!! UGGGH! I'm glad it is feeling better and there is no more limp. Good smart training. Let the body be the guide, better than getting injured while trying to stick to a plan.

My only goal for today was to feel good through out the race and that meant I need to start easier than I have been doing in half.  I am happy to report I meet my goal and felt great the whole way.  Started just under a 7 pace and felt like I ran a pretty even effort race,  I felt like I was really holding back the first 5-6 miles.  I did pick it up for a couple miles in the middle but didn't feel like that put me under.  I do wish I would have broken 1:30 but i am happy with my result.  Last time I ran hobble I did a 1:31 and still ran a 3:12 marathon so I really feel a sub 3:20 is doable. warmed up 1 mile

Well this was not the greatest race for me.  At the beginning of the week I was struck with a sore foot and a bladder injection.  I thought both would resolve themselves, while the foot got better with the help of Dr. b the infection came back on friday and I had to go back on some antibiotics.  Which I think contributed to my GI issues through the entire race (I felt like I had to poop the whole race and when I would stop to try....nothing).  Plus my legs just didn't feel it today and my SI/sciatic hurt from mile 6 on, not a very fun time.

I did have a fun time with Mckenzie, Ericka, and Aubrey, so the weekend wasn't a total wash and Mac and Aubs, Beth, and Melody ran really well.  Had a very sleepless night but didn't feel to bad when I got out of bed.  We meet Beth and Melody at the busses and rode to the start.  Waited around  for about 35 mins for the race to start, it was only a couple mins late despite being shorted half the busses.  Luckily they only had about a 15 min drive to drop us off .

Starting the race I didn't feel great but never warm up for about 5 miles so I just ran but noticed I had to go to the bathroom.  I was running with Aubrey and we ran together until about 15.  She even came back for me but I wasn't feeling it so she continue on.  I tried stopping at mile 6 to use the bathroom but was unsuccessful and was losing time.  Around mile 6 my SI/sciatic starting hurting which hasn't really bothered me lately, this was a bummer.  At mile 10 I realized I wasn't going to feel that good but did want to finish so I though I would just try to hold it together as long as I could.  At mile 16 I wanted to be done as the 3:20 pace group had caught me and I couldn't keep up (they were ahead of pace but I didn't really know that they came in at 3:16).  The only thing that kept me going was if I still got below a 3:30 I could still get that early registration for Boston.   The hills at the end really killed me, not that they were horrible I was just done at that point, well maybe they were horrible at least to me.

My splits were

1-7:19

2-7:29

3-7:18

4-7:19

5-7:12

6-7:51 bathroom stop

7-7:07

8-7:17

9-7:14

10-7:02

11-7:10

12-7:01

13-7:30

14-7:15

15-7:25

16-7:45

17-8:02

18-7:46

19-7:28

20-7:51

21-8:18

22-8:53 this hill was hard to swallow

23-8:18  Durning these last miles I knew I was close to a sub 3:20 and would try to pick it up but I just couldn't hold a good pace anymore.  Sadly this was all I could manage.

24-8:18

25-8:15

26-8:10

.4-7:39 pace  I am pretty sure I was a sub-3:20 at 26.2

I felt pretty defeated when I finished and was mad my back gave me troubles.  I don't know how many more of these my back can really handle but hope I can do this a little longer.

Sounds like you had a pretty tough race! You shouldn't feel too defeated - 3:21 is still a solid time, especially on an "off" day when your body is not cooperating. Hope you can heal up quickly!

How do the Kinvaras hold up during a marathon? I'm debating what shoes to wear for my next race and thought those might be a good option.

From josse on Sun, Sep 04, 2011 at 12:03:55 from 75.244.225.148

I like the shoe, but they seem to rub the bottom of my feet raw the longer I go. But I didn't notice it until the very end cause I wore some good socks.

From Jody on Sun, Sep 04, 2011 at 12:28:33 from 75.141.131.35

3:21 is a great time. Way to be tough and not give up, that is a very hard thing to do. Congrats on the early BQ time!

Congrats! :)

I'm just in awe that you can feel so cruddy, make bathroom stops and still hit a GREAT 3:21 time. I'm glad you were able to hit your early BQ time, those mean SO much more to us now!

Congrats on a great time despite feeling so blech the whole time. I, too, hope your back holds out for you for quite some time yet to come.

You did it! You can always take something from every race. Hey, you've run a marathon faster than me, but that doesn't help anything:) Good workout!

You are amazing. I think it's more impressive that you able to hold it together how you did with all that you were experiencing. 3:21 is an amazing time and then when you take into consideration all the trouble you were having it's INCREDIBLE!! Way to go!!!!

From Walter on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 11:29:32 from 24.2.69.110

Josse, I had a race similar to this in R&R Arizona. Even though you had a bad experience, you have run long enough to shake this off and come back from having a baby to stardom my friend! Keep it up! I love seeing your family out, you are all inspiring!

Oh man, antibiotics and a race, that is a bad combination for sure! So sorry about that!!!! And sorry to hear about the back. You are one tough cookie for finishing that hard race and with a very darn respectable time, too!

From JulieC on Tue, Sep 06, 2011 at 13:07:45 from 199.190.170.31

Josse-- YOU WERE RIGHT ON FOR THAT 3:20-- too bad that pacer guy had to pass you and give off the wrong impression. They do that sometimes, irritating. So good JOB. 3:21 is fast and TOU poorly placed hill miles are NOT fun (and yes you ran under 3:20 for the 26.2, the tangents for potty stops don't help). Way to hang tough with all the issues!! : D.

From Smooth on Tue, Sep 06, 2011 at 22:54:04 from 174.27.216.165

Oh Jos, I am sorry for all your trouble on this race. Your littany of complaints sound like mine. But I am not nearly as tough, and could not have stayed the course with as good a performance. I'm sorry it wasn't the marathon you were hoping for after such a great summer of running...but you still ran a great race and I'll bet it was a great weekend! You are one tough cookie sister. Went to a sports DR. to see if he could give me any answers on my injuries.  Not that much help.   Took some x-rays and did some stretching tests and said my x-rays look normal and doesn't think it is true sciatic, which I already thought.  He wants to do cortisone and pain killer injections, which I won't do.  So a waste of time and money.  I have decided to just continue the bio-medicine from Dr. B and do some aggressive astym.

Decided to try this running thing again.  Took the baby in the jogger, right off the bat both my SI's hurt and hurt through the run also the foot was still a little buggy.  So tired of my low back!  Did a bunch of scraping, stretching trying to relieve the pain.

Took Gauge running later, I had him run a half mile by himself and he would run fast then walk and run and walk but he did it in 5:16 then I paced him at at slow pace so he run the whole thing without stopping he did that in 5:36.  He want to run a BYU 1 mile race and the half mile race on Thanksgiving, he is so excited.  He is wondering what he is going to get if he wins, I told him it doesn't matter if you win just as long as you try your hardest.  Then he asked me what if he is last, and I told him the same thing.

Took my 7 year old to run the half mile race.  He has shown an interest in running and did a mile race a couple of weeks ago in 8:44.  Today he did the half mile in 4:00,  super proud of him.

I warmed about 1.5 miles, i like a longer warm up it helps my back loosen up.  But that is all i had time for.  Saw Kristie and the start and we were off.  The 1st half mile is a  pretty good up hill followed by a mile of down and finishing with a flat mile.  The ending was different than last time i did this race.  You turned at the smith field house and went up and turned and then went through these little underpasses and turns and finally making it on to the track.  I didn't feel it from the get go and knew I was going to do any thing to brag about so I just ran with one fast mile in the middle.  I guess I need to work on shorter speed if I want to break 20 in the 5k.  But I don't really care that much right now,  I just want to run pain free for now.

7:02, 6:22, 7:04, 6:39 pace for the last .14

Cooled down with Kristie, Maryanne, and a former byu runner named Whitney.  Kristie and maryanne turned after a half mile and me and Whitney continue on for a 5 mile cool down.  I wanted more but had to get home.

I don't really plan on much maybe a few smaller races. I am kind of getting turned off to how pricey the races are getting. I will probably to the Halloween half bandit.

Got a ride up to the start of the Halloween and with Julie C.  I was not registered, I have reached my limit on race that i want to pay for this year. They are all getting so pricey.  I did a little warmup with Kim and Jane and lots of potty stops.  The race started only about 3 mins late witch I was surprised because everything else with this race was super hectic, so I heard.  The first 5 miles I ran with Jess and we just chatted all the way down the steep downhill.  I purposely didn't run this as fast as I could have because last time I died after the downhill.  At about mile 3 we cought up to the 1:30 pacer and ran with them until mile 9.   It was fun to run with Allie and James.  I wish I would have just sucked it up and stayed with them.  Anyway I had a good time and ran a pretty solid time for not training that much.  But oh man I am super sore.  Cooled down to my car after.

Josse, I am thinking I NEED to buy a pair of Altras (zero drop) shoes because they are the only shoes that felt good on my feet when I went to the store. How are you liking yours? PF is still a bugger (but doesn't hurt as much walking around during the day---mainly when I run and if I touch it. I scraped it with a butter knife handle last night--OUCH, burn baby!! didn't make it any worse, seemed to release some toxins, not sure. I found an area just above the painful area on the inside of my foot/plantar region that is "bulging". I think it is the muscle/tendon that is causing my heel tendon to pull. I may need your services because I can't get into the Dr. (podiatrist) until Nov. 16th. I was thinking an injection would feel wonderful at this moment--to finally be pain free. But nope, got to wait. Unless you know someone I don't have to wait for that takes insurance.

however did we miss each other today? GREAT not pushing it time!! loved the weather this year. Beats the last time I ran this (2006) when I remember icicles forming when I breathed :D.

I wish I had seen you there..Jamie was there with another adorable baby that looks identical to the last one who both look just like her husband..I saw your mom...The third mile is hard..I slowed down quite a bit..good job..How is your baby? I got a slow start because a guy tripped and I stopped to help him up..People were literally NOT stopping and starting to RUN OVER HIM!!!

From josse on Thu, Nov 24, 2011 at 23:56:28 from 166.250.3.64

Ya I took off right after I finished so I didn't really see anyone.

Sarah my baby is growing like a weed. they just grow up too fast. he is doing good.

Met Melody, Marie and Allie at the mouth of the canyon.  We ran really easy up (8:40) and then about 7:20 down the canyon.  I dropped them off back at the mouth after 8 mile and added on down to Will's and then up to 8th east and back to the canyon.  When I got back I was at 14 so I went up the canyon a half mile to finally get 15 miles on a saturday.  for 5 miles kept the pace at mp for me 7:25, 7:24, 7:22, 7:27, 7:11 felt good until 13 and then I was tired.

Queen Josse - nice work, you are so consistent, the 8:40 up the canyon does not sound all that easy, nice work.

My plan for the next month is to cut back on mileage but still keep my long runs at 10-15 miles.  And do lots of strength training and Yoga so I can start training for Boston come Jan and not be burned out.

Josse, what are you running tomorrow? I could use some company since everyone around me lately likes to run speedy from the get go. I like a nice long warm up then hit the 7s. And maybe four under 7 for the end of a 16 miler. Let me know. Kim and Jane haven't let me know if they are running with Julie and Melanie. I would rather not take off like antelope! We seem to like to warm up similarily. : D.

Me and Julie C. drove to SF to meet McKenzie and Aubrey.  We got to see the lunar eclipse while running it was so cool.  I love stuff like that, it happened at 7:05 on the dot which is when they said it was going to happen.  There was no rhyme or reason to our run we would just go in the direction we could see the moon.  I didn't have a watch but Julie got the pace at 7:51 for the entire run.  Pretty good for me these days.

No I actually have been doing pretty good lately. Running is finally starting to feel easier for me. it has taken me a long time to recover from the marathon and having Cole. Sorry to hear you have been sick, its probably having to get used to all the new germs over there in Hong Kong. Think about you often and can't wait to run with you when you visit:)
