Personal:

I am married with 3 lovely children 26, 18, &12and a dog named Koda and a cat named Blue.  Love to run and be outside.  I believe that if you think you can do it and you work hard enough any thing is possible.   Life flashes by in the blink of an eye, enjoy it while it last and remember there is a lot more to life than running. I coach high school swim and love it!

I'm so sorry to hear about the medical problems your daughter is having. I know it will all work out but it must be so painful...

We've had medical problems and other weird stuff going on in the extended family that has brought me more stress than I've ever experienced before so I feel your pain..really I do.

That's exciting that you play the flute...I LOVE the flute but don't get to play much anymore. What kind of painting do you do? I like to do pencil drawings and simple painting...such as some growth charts that I painted for my kids with cartoon characters on them...but I know I've got some other type of artistic tendencies lying dormant in me somewhere I just need some time to learn and try them out.

It is quite sad that we don't use our talents like we did when we were yonger isn't it, I to don't play as much as I would like. Luckily I have a flute student so I do get it out at least once a week and they ask me to play in church once in a while.

I love to work with all kinds of medium, but I love to work with prisma color. I draw people the best, my mom tought me when I was in about 5th grade and I had an awsome art teacher in high school (Mr. Laney)I just vetured into painting a mural on my sons wall but I am not finished yet,

it is a scene out of the Cars movie. I think we all have many dormant talets in us, it's to bad we don't have more time, enery, or desire to do it all.

From sarah on Fri, Aug 17, 2007 at 15:43:28

I painted murals on my kids walls in our old house...it was so much fun!! We just moved so we decided in this house just to paint murals on the boards..hence the growth charts I did. You are so incredibly talented at everything you try...wow!! I think that's awesome that you teach flute...I might may able to take students if I didn't have so many babies. I love playing in church..no pressure...people love it. I play the organ 3 times a month for our ward. It's very stressful and freaks me out but I'm glad for the chance to work on my talent a little bit. I think heaven is going to be wonderful ( not that I'm in a hurry to get there...I've got stuff to do now) but I just mean that I have this idea it will be a place we can have time to work on the talents we love. We do have time for it now...just in very tiny fragments in between everything else we try and cram in...have a good day.

From josse on Fri, Aug 17, 2007 at 15:50:31

Yes after painting on my sons wall I don't think I will do it again, canvas and boards are much better because you don't have to leave it behind. Thanks for your encougagement I really do appriecate it.

Josee - I would start even with lesser mileage and a much slower pace - 3 at 9:30 - 10:00, then cross train for the balance to keep the aerobic fitness. When you have been injured, and then start to run, you will have the drive to go a lot faster than what your muscles can handle. Find a slower training partner that struggles at anything faster than 9:30, and make sure she stays conversational.

From josse on Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 16:45:29

I'm struggling with this and would love any suggestions that you might have. I am an RN and have tried all the "Medical" treatments with a little success but am sure there has to be something else out there!

From josse on Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 16:36:23

Bursitis is a tricky one because it is in the hip but there is a technique that I have been getting dune on my hip and calf for my injuries that has helped me a great deal it is called astym or the chinese call it gua sha or scrapping, but this may help. I get it dune by my PT.

The mellow sounds like what Sasha ordered. It's no fun to run slower than your heart or legs want to but you've got a life of running ahead of you if you play it smart.

Keep conservative! This is not the time of year where it makes sense to jump into running at fast paces. If we both run smart we can run a sub-3 hour marathon next year together!

I would recommend running all 6 days, but keep some of them at 3 miles of running, and then cross-training equivalent for the remainder.

Thanks for the advice, next week we will be at Disney Land so I will do what I can but after that I will see if I can handle that. My goal for next year are to run Ogden around 3:10-3:20. Then I want to complete a half Ironman in August, still with my focus on running and then run St. George or Top of Utah under 3 hours. I love and welcome any advice you have. And if you are wondering why a half Ironman, I seem to run best when I do some crosstraing and that will force me to stick that into my routine.

Do you have any big plans for spring racing or are you just planning in general?

From josse on Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 23:41:16

No, I wish. I have been injured all summer. I think I will take a crack at Ogden again and probably St. Gearge. Marathoning is frustrating though. Maybe one day I will learn how to do it.

Good luck to you at St. George, just relax and run.

I went off sugar about  a week and a half ago.  I usually do this for about 8-9 month out of the year but being injured all summer I didn't have the motivation to do it .  Even know sugar gives me terrible headaches, that should be motivation enough.  I do fine during the week but for some reason the weekend comes and I want something sweet.  I don't give in but it nags at me.  I love the way I feel off sugar, the befits far out way eating the stuff.

Goals for the week-  do what I can I will be in California for most of it.

I have done the no sugar thing many time and really feel I run better and stay heathier when I do. The first couple times I did it I did it with people and made bets with them to sick with it. So if you need some extra help I'm allways willing to make a wager.

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Oct 01, 2007 at 14:17:42

Michelle - the best way to jump in a cold lake is to just do it. Once you are in the water, it is actually not that bad. The worst part is standing next to it and getting ready. If you spend too much time getting yourself motivated, you will never jump.

From josse on Mon, Oct 01, 2007 at 14:23:45

True it really is not all that bad, it take a couple of days to get through the cravings, but it is all mind set.

From sarah on Mon, Oct 01, 2007 at 22:24:21

What about going to the health food store and getting a treat there? That's what we do...we don't go without treats we just stay away from the refined flours and sugars.

From josse on Mon, Oct 01, 2007 at 23:58:55

I'm not really a treat person but if I do want something really bad I will have things like goats cheese ( the brown kind) or raisens or something from the health food store. Thats what I try to stay away from also, redined sugar and white flour.

I really don't know what happened this summer even when I'm not as strict I don't eat as much sugar as I did this summer. It must have been the stress.

Josse, I decided to take the challenge and cut out the white flour, processed sugar untill Friday. I know it's not too long but I think it will get me started. One question? I always drink a slimfast after my morning runs, it does list sugar so is it out? I am going to take Sara's suggestion and head down to the health food store and find some snacks, but the slimfast is a real treat but if it has to go then I'll come up with something else. If you have any other suggestions for snacks ect. I'm all ears. And to Sasha's comment.. that's me for sure, standing next to the lake ect. I'm always the last one in the pool, lake or whatever but once I'm in I the last one out and begging to stay longer!

From josse on Tue, Oct 02, 2007 at 13:16:04

I would not drink slimfast, what I drink after my runs is my own made up shake that consists of a high quility whey protien (not soy if I have to muxh soy I get really moodey) I always look at the sugar content to make sure it is below at least 3 grams per serving. I also add cod liver oil (this has very high antinfalmitory properties as well as many other benfits) and a whole food supplement called E-7. This usually holds me over untill lunch time.

Next week I think I will go for a 10 mile long run and 30-35 miles total.

I am glad your ankle is better Josse -- I do that all the time too! I tore the ligaments in my ankle when I was 17 and am always SO afraid I am going to do it again. Luckily, since I moved here I get to worry more about breaking my wrist or falling off a trail so I haven't worried as much about it ;-).

Good luck getting the mileage up there, your patience will pay off!

I would hold back on racing until the Thanksgiving 4 miler, and treat that one as a glorified tempo run. Start slow, then accelerate gradually if feeling good, if you want to kick at the end, start early and gradually ease into it.

Josse I couldn't remeber what injury you are coming out of but I started on Sat. with pain in my left arch. Thought it might be achilles stuff but what I have read is it's more painful in the heel? Do you have any info or experience with this?

From josse on Tue, Oct 16, 2007 at 13:47:21

When ever I get any pain in my feet I always start working it out and iceing, I use a massager ball that I got along time ago. It has 4 leg and is made out of wood. You can use a golf ball or baseball or even a can of soup. It is painful but you need to go as hard as you can stand it. It probably will be sore after you so this but that is normal. work on it at least twice a day untill you don't have any pain in your arch. You can also ice it before you work it out and it numbs it up so it doesn't hurt as bad. get on it ASAP.

If this doesn't make sence let me know and I can show you how to take care of this.

From Michelle on Tue, Oct 16, 2007 at 14:37:59

Thanks I'll get going on it! Hope it goes away quick! What do think the cause is?

From josse on Tue, Oct 16, 2007 at 16:38:13

It could be a couple of things, but probably your just not recovered from the marathon yet, when you get pains it could be a sign of over training. Or am imblance in your body. I just went to this sports chiropractor that finds your weaknesses and helps you fix them with differant exersices.

From Michelle on Tue, Oct 16, 2007 at 22:57:30

I wish I could take credit for the marathon, but that is the "fast" MichelleL. But someday I'd like to run one. These stupid little reminders that my body wouldn't are getting anyoying tho!

From josse on Wed, Oct 17, 2007 at 00:51:27

Sorry about the mix up but minus the marathon the other thing are probobly contributers. Just keep on it don't miss a day and I think it will be fine. If not let me know. Feet probems are a bummer if you let them get bad. Remember twice a day and more if you have time. The best medicine for any injury and I swear by this is cold/hot treatment. Start with 5-7 mins. of ice and then 5-7 mins of heat so this for as long as you have times for after you work on it. This may sound time consuming but it works, I have used it as well as many of my clients. You just have to be consistant. This is what I would do, while you are blogging or watching TV have your tool to work out your foot, do that for about 5 mins. Then get a big bowl of ice and a heat pad and go back and forth from one to the other.

What is the foot strike correction thing? What kind of foot striker are you? I am a heel striker. I am going to try and become a midfoot striker after my injuries heal. I believe my heel striking is, in part, causing my problems.

From josse on Tue, Oct 23, 2007 at 12:20:28

It is actually called a Pneu-gait strap, I land on my mid-foot but rotate my right foot laterally (to the outside) so I sprain my ankle alot. To fix your heel striking problems try leaning forward at the hips (as if you are about to fall before you start to run, raise you arms to about heart level and push those elbows back. Don't cross your arms in front of your body, straight back and foward. This should help you land on the mid-foot. If you live close to the Runner's Corner you can go in there and ask them to help with this problem. Hawk has this devise he uses to help correct your form, it feel goofy but it workks.

then I had two corn tortialls with lean meat and homemade salsa (No sugars in it) and a pinch of cheese.

I try to drink alot of water.

I still have 20 pds to lose. That will put me at 120. I am 5"3".

What do you think?

From josse on Tue, Oct 23, 2007 at 19:25:28

Everyone react differantly to foods you really have to pay attention to the way you react to differant type of food. Like what make you feel good and sustains you for a long period of time and stick to those foods, I think everyone notices how crappy you feel after a handbuger and frys. I found recently that my body really run well on beans (I like black beans the best) I use them in salads, you could add these to your tortialls and yes corn are much better for you, they are not made with lard like flour one usually are. I think you can find better thing to drink then slim fast (my opinion). I believe I outlined what I drink in the mornings in the info I posted. For

vitiams I would look for a whole food supplement (if you need help with this ask some one at the health food store they are usually pretty helpful. A helpful hint is to keep a food journal, this can be time consuming but then you know what works and what doesn't.

Well I'm feel pretty frustrated, and beat up (I had a really deep massage last night, alot of myofacial release stuff.  It hurt super bad) My right inside knee felt twingy yesterday, from wearing my gait correction strap to long.  I'm pretty sure I'll be OK but never the less I am forcing myself to not run today.  This is something I have to fight myself to do, I find this funny because most people have to fight themselves to exersise.  But I REALLY don't want another injury.  So I will just do some crosstraining later.  Good day!

Went to the rec center and did 45 mins on the elliptical and 25 min on the spin bike.  Knee does feel better.

That is so painful to do that much cross-training instead of running. It takes alot more resolve.

Did the country club loop this morning, Oh man my horses where on strike this morning.  But my knee felt fine just a little bit of muscle soreness left.  I think I will hang out around 40-45 miles a week until my body and joints get use to this and then I will progress to more.  Had a hard time waking up but I did not want to push the jogger today so I did, my arms are tired from painting ceilings yesterday.  Hope for a better day tomorrow.

0.000.000.000.006.006.00

I decided after alot of debate with myself to take the day off running and just crossed trained.  My knees are both alittle bit sore on the insides, this make me nervous because I got this thing called Planker band syndrome last year right before the marathon (basicley the sanovial sheath that surrounds the knee was inflammed) and I don't want this again.  But I think it is just from wearing that gait correction strap and then I have been agressively scraping them.

Did 25 mins. on the spin bike and 30 mins. on the elliptical.

Sometimes I wonder if I will ever get out of this patteren, I think I am building slowely enough that it shouldn't be a problem.  And I have had years without injury when I have trained hard.  I just don't understand.  My stars have just not been aligned.

I also have been working on some pretty agressive streaching, man those muscels can get tight. OUCH!

Is it possible that the gait correction strap is making things worse?

That is what I am thinking and have not ran with it scence. I am just being overly cautious, I don't want another set back. I will ask the doctor about it on Monday.

I didn't run today because I didn't get home untill after midnight and I am coming down with the flu.  Knees are feeling better, I think I am just overly paranoid that I will injure myself and I don't want that.  Hopefully I won't get to sick and my knees will coroperate so I can start up next week and have a good week.

Selpt in because I still didn't feel great.  Took my son later in the jogger started at will and ran up 4 miles and back.  Knees felt fine.  I saw the chiropractor today and told him what happened wearing the gait correction straps and he said that happens with some people and to work into them more slowly.  I wore it on my right for 1 mile and on my left for .70 of a mile.  So we will see how my knee so with that.  He also told me I need orthotics,  I have had orthotics in the past and never liked them so we will see how convinsing he is, he did do a foot scan and showed me.

So I am on the stake sports commity and they asked me to put a team together for this 5k, so I did.  I had no idea what to expect with a 5k because it had been so long scence I have ran one (I think the last time was cross county at UVSC in 2001) MY only goal was to not hurt myself.  The course was true to cross country style, on grass, which made me nervous because of my ankle but it did fine.  The course was long 3.25.  My team won as well.

1-6:57 was worried I started to fast and would die in the end, chicked some guys

2-7:08 felt good, chicked some more guys

3-7:04 felt ok, chicked one more guy

Where was your cross country race held, and how many people did you get to show up? I think that sounds like a fun thing to do for a stake or region activity. Way to chick some of those guys!

From josse on Sun, Nov 04, 2007 at 23:42:11

There were about 90 people, which I thought was great for a church thing and they only gave us 2 weeks notice. I finished with 10 guys in front of me, mostly little cross county boys. It was alot of fun. I had to twist the other girls on my team arms to come run with me but they also had a good time. I think Jed the reason I haven't ran that distance for a long time, long story.

Sasha- I would say I could have pushed myself alot more but I didn't what to run to fast at this point yet. About 50-60% I would say. I could comfortably talk and was able to make surges to pass easily. My goal for the 5k is to get a PR this year as well as the other distances.

I feel really good today no soreness form yesterday, I am stiff in my back but that is normal for me.  This is a good sign .  I am really pleased with my preformance yesterday,  the pace was comfortable, I was able to do surges without any sort of pain,  I didn't hurt myself,  my pace if the course was correct would have given me around a 21:45 5k, and I actually liked running a 5k (surprising, maybe I'll run more of these races).

My goals for next week are to run 40-45 miles, do about 10-12 cross training miles,  and keep up the streching.  I really worked on my streching last week and my hip are finally opening up (I do it when I watch tv at night after the kid are in bed, 30-45 mins.)  I also am trying this new suplement called Zrii, at first I was taking an ounce and really didn't notice a differance.  I upped the dose to the recommened 3 ounces before I run and it seems to make me feel really great, but we will see long term.

I started at wills and ran  up the jogging path 5 miles (just past canyon glenn) did this in 39:38.  Then turned around and ran back keeping the pace right around a 7 min.  Felt really good.  My splits are as follows-

slight up grade 8:01, 7:56, 7:50 (headwind), 7:56 (headwind), 7:56(headwind, turn around slight down grade, 7:15, 6:58, 6:55, 7:05, 7:06 total time 1:15:04 for 10.01 a 7:30 avg. pace.

Then I ran 1 more mile as a cool down and stretched for 20 mins.  Felt really good about my workout.

Well, the race starts out with a pretty steep downhill. Most of the course is downhill, but there is a point where you get to the bottom of the canyon and then you go up one of the trails for about 3 miles. Although it is not steep uphill, it is pretty steady. Then, you turn around and the rest is downhill to the finish.

Early run by myself.  My husband keeps needing to leave earlier for work which is fine.  I just got spoiled for a while not having to be home until 7:30.  Having to be home at 6:45 makes it harder to meet people so I just get up and so it myself.  I would have ran while Gauge was in preschool but I just found out my daughter has a field trip today and I am not sure if they got a wheel chair accessable bus, why don't people realize if you have a kid in a wheelchair you are going to need a wheelchair bus to transport her.  Oh well she's going to a new school this year and it took her old one a while to figure that one out as well, even with me reminding them.  So any who I was sure if I would be able to get my run in later so I got up and ran early.

Not feeling the hotest this week, I think I am tried from last week and my certain monthly visitor has come for the week.  That always makes me alittle more tired.

So I think I had a pretty darn good race.  Although I am super duper sore today (sunday), I usually am training for a full marathon when I race half but my longest run before this was 11 mile or so.  I was extreamlly happy with my finish I held it together and it was a tough finish, rolling hills.  For the kind of shape I am in I really could have not asked for anything more.  Plus I was able to meet Marcie and saw some good old friends, one being Mr. Hooper in the flesh.  Any way I had a really good, but though race.  My legs still didn't feel that fresh and the middle part of the race was on dirt and uphill.

1-6:03 steep downhill start

2-6:15 still steep

3-6:57 flatens out worried I started to fast

4-7:48 I think this is when we started on the dirt trail

5-8:01 uphill dirt and tired

6-7:48 uphill dirt and still tired, turn around and the water stop was not there and I was goin to take a hammer gel grrrr

7-7:09- regrouping and calling on my wonderwomen strength

8-7:16 hammer gel

9-7:48 uphill

Wow!! You SMASHED your goal! Someday, I hope to run that fast. Great job!

From Dustin on Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 00:19:38

Good job on the race. I wasn't feeling too sore yesterday, but today my legs are feeling pretty sore. The first two miles were way too steep for me. I struggled a little heading out on the dirt trail, but had a better attitude and focus coming back, usually I really dislike races where you have to pass everyone heading in the opposite direction, but it wasn't too bad today. I even made an effort to tell every little kid I saw good job and keep it up, which was kind of fun. Well, keep up the training.

From MichelleL on Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 00:21:57

Didn't exactly take the first couple of miles easy did we? I think your killer competitive spirit took root instead! Great job Josse! Great job keeping close to 7 minute miles on the last several miles. There's going to be more from where this came from. . .

From Benn on Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 06:20:35

Goal = DEMOLISHED AND PULVERIZED! Way to go! From what I gathered from reading peoples blogs even though I havent gone out to Utah before, it sounds like the first couple miles are a huge elevation drop and you can easily find yourself running well under your target pace. But 1:34!! Way to go!! I have seen your secrets however....

I thought it was a hard course too, so I am glad to hear others felt that way. I am so sore today as well!! Anyways great job again, you definetely met your goal by long ways.

Josse - great start of the Fall season. I really hate it when people ask me "How long is that marathon that you've just run?", but I am afraid I need to ask a similar question - do you have any idea of how long that course actually was? (When FRB gets a little bit more clout, I'll start a heavy campaign to encourage the race directors to certify the courses).

From Lybi on Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 12:54:32

Sasha- my garmin said 13.14 so not to off.

Tom- I believe I passed about 10 guys but 2 passed me back I call this being dechicked. One guy at the end just didn't want me to pass him I surged passed on a uphill and he would pass me on the downs, we did this a couple of times I don't remeber if he beat me or not but he gave me a big high five at the finish line. Friendly compition got to love it.

From josse on Sat, Sep 20, 2008 at 15:41:02

Depending on when in May the Ogden Marathon is I might think about that one.. although not sure what everyone's opinions are, as it is only 6 months away? I really will be happy just to break the elusive 4 hour barrier. My brother made a comment that I need to get "serious" about running. Funny that I am running 6 to 7 days a week and he runs 12 miles a week on 2 or 3 runs. i mean granted he's in high school, but sometimes it's just a downer :( GOD BLESS with the surgery and I hope you are back quickly! Thanks everyone, I am doing well. Last night was hard because I couldn't keep my pain meds down but I am doing much better.

Benn the Ogden website is www.ogdenmarathon.com if you want to check it out. I think it is a great course starts out with some down hill then you go through some towns this is rolling but not to bad, you have a good up hill at about 16 and then some flat with small rollers. At about 19 or so you head down the canyon and the last couple are a slight down grade.

Don't compare yourself to your brother you are two differant people. Give yourself a break. And I would take at least one day off out of the week.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Josse,

I do have some pretty bad tendonitis, and can't seem to shake it. The bad thing about it is I can run but not all out and not with out some pain, especially when I am not warmed up. Also, I can't play basketball or volleyball which I normally do a lot this time of year. I get down your way about once a month because all of my family lives around there. I haven't tried the hot/cold deal yet. Maybe I'll try it for a couple of weeks, get a massage this week, and see what happens. I will be down there in two weeks and maybe I can call you if I am still fighting this crap. Thanks for the advise.

Glad to see you got out today. I still laugh about when Sasha asked you what kind of surgery you had!:)

I was super upset when I left the rec.  I saw my dad, whom I don't have a relationship with, his doing.  He is the type that suck you up and spits you out.  He love to bash the LDS religion, a faith I belive in,  and he take no responsablity in abanoning his kids.  Needless to say I had just had it and let him know.  Probably not the smartest thing because he is not a menatally sound man, and he lives in his own little world where he can do no wrong, but I didn't want to sit and be talked at  and belittled any more.

I was going to say we need a picture of the new and improved Josse. Hey, what is up with that 3.47000123456 mile junk? Sasha and Cody are a bad influence on some of you and your mileage recording. You should either run run a few more feet or just say 3.5 miles. I will call you on it from now on, so shape missy!

From MichelleL on Wed, Dec 05, 2007 at 19:21:33

From josse on Wed, Dec 05, 2007 at 19:32:13

This is right before the imporvments. All though I don't really think it needs improvement.

From James on Wed, Dec 05, 2007 at 23:39:18

I agree with the picture part, it is a good picture and no "improvement" was necesarry in my book. However there has never and will never be a good enough excuse, in my opinion, to record mileage like the 3.470018967341417 stuff that seems so popular on the blog. If I run 3.9 miles I would say 4 miles, if I run 3.6 miles I would say 3.5 miles, and that is rounding the tenth. You ladies can do whatever makes you happy, but it is so funny and nit picky that I will always give you a hard time about it.

From josse on Thu, Dec 06, 2007 at 00:42:08

When I logged by paper I always rounded, I don't think it really matters. Just that you are out their running in the wee hours of the morning and driving ourselves into the ground as much as we can, and loving every ounce of it. Happy running;)

From Benn on Thu, Dec 06, 2007 at 07:13:29

Great job on the run and just give it time. It will all come together :-D I agree that determination to get up and go running in the wee hours of the morning deserve some pats on the back! And if you round, just make sure that you don't round by like half a mile, and that its consistent, so if you round up one day, make sure to round down the next day. I think that's what James is saying?

From Benn on Thu, Dec 06, 2007 at 07:14:18

Good job managing your recovery well. The roads will wait until you are ready.

From Bonnie on Mon, Dec 10, 2007 at 20:21:17

Hello Josse,

I agree with James - great job on the cross-training.

I have been meaning to write, but got sidetracked with work. I think that many people underestimate the toll that surgery has on our bodies. The anesthesia alone is pretty tough (completely unnatural and does very weird things to your entire system), then add in the whole knife thing ... this probably isn't as obvious to people who are not used to functioning at the physical level you are, but is remarkable to people who are active.

Take it easy, you are in great shape and it won't take you long to get back to where you were. It will be worse to try to rush things and have a bunch of set-backs (in my opinion).

Take Care,

Bonnie

From josse on Mon, Dec 10, 2007 at 23:07:51

I completly agree with you Bonnie. This had defintaly been tougher than I anticitpated. I can still taste the anesthesia once in a while (even 3 weeks out, it makes me want to through up). I realise know that it will take me longer than I thought. I will try to be patient, I think know that is had been 3 weeks it will be easier to be patient. I do miss it alot, but know it will always be waiting for me when I come back.

From Maria on Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 14:34:15

Good call, Josse! Take your time, there is no rush. It took me a full month to regain my full regular strength (not running) after my surgery in '02. The first week I got home, I decided to walk 3 miles, and I barely made it back home. I was so weak, it was a chore just to go down the stairs in my own house! I also lost about 15 lbs while I was at the hospital, but that had more to do with being on just IV for full 7 days (no solid food). Surgeries, especially open cut ones, are a killer on the body. Be kind to yours, and it will thank you!

Good Job on getting the crosstraining miles in. They are hard to do when it is running that is your passion! Are you planning on coming down for Painters? What races do you have planned for next year?

From josse on Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 00:47:54

I don't think I will be in very good shape for painters so I probably won't. I was thinking about doing the Ogden winter racing circuit, the Ogden marathon (I did it last year and really liked it), I'm not sure for summer racing I like the provo river 10 miler and half and hobble creek. I will do St. George and maybe Top of Utah in the fall. I plan to do some shorter races as well. Oh and I may come down for the Hurrican half I also did that last year and liked it. What's your plan?

From marciej on Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 10:35:30

Well I think I will do Painters (I dont know why but I am not to excited about it but I need a winter race to keep me in shape), then possibly moab if my group gets in, the Spectrum 10k, Hurricane 1/2, Wasatch Back Relay, Bryce Canyon 1/2, Possibly Hood to Coast Relay, Hobblecreek, St. George and I HOPE New York marathon. Thats my tentative plan but it could change depnding on what my running buddies down here are doing. So hopefully I will see ya at Hurricane 1/2! BTW I think Ogden is a great race too.

Good job Josse! A couple of days ago I contemplated advising you to always do at least 60 min a day, but you have already been doing that.

From josse on Wed, Dec 12, 2007 at 14:17:12

Thanks Michelle, and you rocked on your workout like always. Makes me just alittle bit jealous.

From Christi on Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 09:33:33

Hey Josse- yeah Rachel Ray can get me through some tough workouts! So I see you've been doing lots of cross training- just for fun or do you have a running injury? Sorry, if I missed that!

From josse on Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 11:17:04

I had surgery on nov. 20th (chest enhancment)

From Christi on Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 23:37:28

Ah- I'm jealous, bet you look great!! You said you are taking longer to recover that most people you know who've had this surgery, but maybe they don't work out as hard as you...Be careful!

From josse on Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 13:39:05

Thanks I'm trying. I am in a pretty foul mood because my monthy visitor has come and I get pretty bad headaches with it, and the soreness doesn't seem to be getting better from the surgery. Maybe I as just being to impatient. I guess everyone recovery is differant and I can't compare myself to other people that have had this surgery.

Yeah Josse! How are you feeling now? That is smart to do 60 minutes cross training then to do the jogging. I wonder if you can cross train before meeting us on Thursday? I would think even a little would help you not suffer from irrational exuberance.

From josse on Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 20:26:36

I feel pretty good, I think what I will do is just meet after your warmup and run inside for a few miles so I am not tempted to go fast with you guys. Then I will do my other stuff later.

I was reading on the discussion forum and saw that you lift weights so you can lift your 75 lb. daughter. Do she have disabilities? My oldest daughter does, and I know that I am definitely smarter to stay in shape or I DO hurt my back lifting her.

From josse on Wed, Dec 19, 2007 at 14:28:31

Laura -yes my daughter has Arthrogyrposis, a disorder that affects all her joints. She is paralized from the chest down. She is 11 years old and the light of my life. What does your daughter have?

From laura on Wed, Dec 19, 2007 at 23:44:50

Our daughter has Schizencephaly (I usually just tell people she has Cerebral Palsy, since it's more well known) which caused cognitive delay, left side paresis, seizures, and visual impairment. She is 7 years old, but cognitively more like a 3 year old; and she can't pronounce most of her consonants, so communication is a major problem. Since her left side is more affected than her right side: her gait is awkward, she trips easily, and she can't really use her left hand. But she's our little angel and we adore her!!!

How's the recovery coming along? Call me and let me know about Sat. My cell is 380-0284. I have to try and get some last minute Christmas shopping done so I hope I don't go crazy!

Glad to see you ran Naked(no watch). In Logan it was the cool thing to do, I think because it seemed to take discipline.

Sounds like you had a nice Christmas. I have always wanted one of those trainers, I thingk they are pretty cool. Have fun with that.

I was just updating you on my achilles issues. The hot/cold therapy seems to be helping because I can tell it is starting to heal up, finally. It is a pain in the butt to do, but as long as it helps I will do it. Thanks!

From josse on Wed, Dec 26, 2007 at 17:29:41

Glad to hear that the hot cold is working, I swear by it. I bought a strap by Mullar from wall mart that you can put an ice pack in so I can do things while icing. Then you can make (if you have a sewing machine) a little rice bag that will fit in the strap and heat it in the microwave. It is around 10 bucks I love it and you can use it anyplace on your body. Super handy! Another thing I do to save time is get in the shower right after I ice.

Just keep it up

Got up early and ran the same 5 mile loop I did the other two days I'm going to call it the L -loop (lakerage loop) no watch again.  Felt tired and beat up probably because I had a massage last night and also gave one and I haven't done that in 5 weeks.  She scraped my back, it is black and blue, which tells me I really needed it.  Before my surgery we were not getting any of the bruising up.  Any way then I came home took a hot shower and went back to sleep for alittle while.  I hate doing this because I always wake up feeling even more tired and trashed than when I went to sleep.

Later-40 mins on my bike

Josse - do you have a suggestion for who I should see for my leg? I want to go see a sports therapist unless you have a better idea. I need to know what is going on to know what to do about it. It isn't hurting bad but It is tender and I am afraid to back off the training, at least until Painters. Also, what did you decide for Saturday?

From josse on Fri, Dec 28, 2007 at 15:34:28

If you go to a sports specialist I would go to Dr. Brady (375-2420) he is a sports Chiro but does a number of differant therapies. He is your best bet. I can take a look as well if you would like.

I need to talk to my husband first to see if he need to open up the house in the morning so I will let you know later. What is your plan, how far and stuff?

Josse, I really have not followed your blog, caught your comments on James blog. I hope you have a great year in running for 2008, and that problems vanish and be replaced with PRs and happiest runs.

Stay Cool, have a great 2008, B of BS Rools out.

From James on Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 21:23:22

I think you will have a good year in 2008. Have a team of ABSOLUTE STUDS and two speedy chickas to keep you motivated, and you seem to be getting healthier all of the time. Not to mention a blog full of all kinds of personality. I still think you had a pretty decent year of running, looking at your races, even if you don't feel it went that well. Have a Happy New Year!
