I am married with 3 lovely children 26, 18, &12and a dog named Koda and a cat named Blue.  Love to run and be outside.  I believe that if you think you can do it and you work hard enough any thing is possible.   Life flashes by in the blink of an eye, enjoy it while it last and remember there is a lot more to life than running. I coach high school swim and love it!

So the positives in this race was I PRed big time over last years time (14 min) I didn't slow down as much as I did last year (I did struggle the last 3 big time though.  I actually new I was not going to have that great of a race at about mile 6 my vision was going all blurry/wavey at this point and it was allready hot.  I thought at this point I would have to pull out because I was light headed, I was so mad because my leg felt great.  I took some power aid to see if it was my blood sugar and about 3 miles later my vision was clear again and never did that again.  I am happy with my time but not happy at the same time.  I know I should have been faster, but with the way I felt and the heat this is what I ended up with.

I started the race with Michelle, MacK, and Cal.  Michelle was gone within 20 seconds and I took a pit stop at mile one and cought back up with Cal and MacK with in a half mile.  MacK had to stop and stretch her calves and didn't see her again until about mile 7.  So I ran with Cal until about 10 and then he left me.  The first 8 or so felt super comfortable, only had my vision problem.  Then the roller I really felt like I ran them smart.  Got to 18 and I just couldn't push the down hill like I wanted IT WAS SURVIVAL.  I finished feeling sick and like I was going to pass out and felt like that for about an hour.  I feel fine now, leg are not sore I feel like I ran an easy 20 miler which upsets me.  I wanted my leg to be trashed.  But what do you do.

Nice run today, the heat really affected everyone. Keep your head and spirits up, you have many more great races in store.

I had the course about .14M long as well, most liekly due to my tangents on the course.

From Cody on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 16:03:57

Way to tough it out and finish with such a good time. I don't know how to survive the last 5K. It is brutal. Good racing!!!

From Jon on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 16:11:11

Nice job today- huge improvement over last year and very consistent right up till the end. The fact your legs weren't trashed means you have some awesome times in them at later races this year! You did great, top 10 finish! Congrats and keep kicking butt!

From Lybi on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 16:34:01

Wow Josse! 14 min. off last year's time! Congratulations! That is breakthrough territory for sure. Sounds like the heat really got you, as it did most of the other runners. I am AMAZED that you finished as well as you did, considering that you started having vision problems at mile 6!1 (Only 20 to go...uuungh!)

From brent on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 16:34:22

Josse, agree with your assessment, darn tough course, heat, etc. You had a great race with the conditions and your almost DNF. I think it reflects how great of shape your getting into. Very good race year ahead for you. Hey, you even managed a thumbs up to me when taking your picture.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

Wait to go Josse, it is not an easy course. That is an awesome course PR for you! You are incredibly tough!

From Mark on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 19:05:31

Great job Josse, it's no easy feat to have a huge course PR in the heat like that!

From cgbooth23 on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 19:18:26

good meeting you this morning, its fun to put faces to blogs... Great job today, what an awesome course, I love the changes that you experience from the start to the finish!

From James on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 21:55:17

Good job today! You are way ahead of where you were last year!

From Benn on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 22:35:21

Don't beat yourself up. Huge PR on the course! And what's more... two HUGE marathon finishes this spring! You go girl! (I'm jealous! ;) )

14 off last years!!! Holy Cow!! Thats AWESOME!! Hey, nice job your one tuff gal.

From MichelleL on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 10:20:05

I can't believe your legs aren't thrashed! That alone shows that you trained correctly for the course and are in shape for a better time. You definitely could have done better with different conditions. I agree that your assessment is just right. You should be happy that you did so much better than last year, but it is also ok to be frustrated that you didn't run to potential. Leaves you hungry for your next race, eh?

From Ian on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 10:51:42

Well done Josse, a heat marathon is tough and 14 mins off last year's course time is great. You stuck it out and got a good overall position and a placing in your A.K., and you'll get your revenge. Good on ya sport!

From Superfly on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 12:09:34

Great run out there. Keep up the hard work and you'll cash in some great times in the near future.

From Dale on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 20:17:52

Great race! Way to stick it out in less than ideal conditions. If you figure out the wavy vision thing, let me know....I've had it too. A 14 minute bump from last year's mark in the heat is a really really good thing!

From Michael on Mon, May 19, 2008 at 10:00:10

Way to hang tough - congrats on your 11th place and great improvement

From Sean on Mon, May 19, 2008 at 11:29:00

Wow. Massive PR with lots of potential to go.

From Dee on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 19:06:50

Great job. My run didn't go so well. You started out not too far in front of me in the pack and quickly disappeared.
