I am married with 3 lovely children 26, 18, &12and a dog named Koda and a cat named Blue.  Love to run and be outside.  I believe that if you think you can do it and you work hard enough any thing is possible.   Life flashes by in the blink of an eye, enjoy it while it last and remember there is a lot more to life than running. I coach high school swim and love it!

I think my body goes in cycles of handling marathon and not handling them, right know it's not.  But I am okay with that, kind of.

Got a good night sleep got up at 5 and ate some oatmeal with pb and honey mixed in and drank my drink.  My mom came and got me and McKenzie and Mel drove us up to the start, got there at 6:30 and used the john talked some and then it was time to start.   The jist of it is I felt really good through the half and even up till 20 and then my body shut down, stomach revolted and at 25 I completely lost it, basically crawled up the over pass and then jogged to the finish and passed out.  I just need to figure out my nutritional needs,  which is all ways my problem.  I figured them out a couple of years ago and need to go back to using what i used then, I'm a slow learner I guess.  I am satisfied and ready to take a break, need to figure out my SI and hammy issue before I do another one of these.  In retrospect I think Boston took a lot more out of me than I thought.

1-7:04 Ran the first 20 with McKenzie  we had a good o'ld time

2-6:59 these two are down south fork and just wanted to run them easy, and it felt that way.

3-7:16

4-7:04

5-7:03

6-7:11 These first miles just flew bye I didn't believe Mac when she said we were at 6

7-7:14 the miles are feeling good and comfortable

8-7:18

9-7:18

10-7:18

11-7:26

12-7:15

13-7:08

13.1- 1:34ish and felt fabulous and was ready to go

14-7:15

15-7:23 realized that my stomach was starting to bother me and I was not really handling the little gu I was taking

16-7:46  the coarse really flattens out and get hard at this point

17-7:46

18-7:53

19-8:07

20-8:25 starting on the path witch is up and starting to really struggle

21-8:29

22-8:45 taking it a mile at a time

23-8:41

24-8:52

25-8:56

26-10:32 crawled over the over pass

.27-2:41 crossed the line and crashed to the ground, stone cold and grey as a ghost.  laid there for some time and then they carried me to the medic tent and laid there for I don't know how long.  They wanted to call an ambulance but I wouldn't let them.  I really felt like a dork!  I think my blood sugar dropped super low.  I am going to take the next while and figure things out but as of know I want to take a year off marathoning and get my low back figured out,  Does anyone know of any witch doctor that work miracles?

Sorry about the gross finish. But good job on a super solid first 20. Plus a 3:25 isn't that bad. I think just getting your body use to racing a marathon takes actually racing marathons. So this should go a long ways to helping with your next race. Good job!

way to even finish with the way things were looking. But way to feel great through mile 16!!! Heal up. figure things out!!

Solid effort josse! That last mile sounded horrific. I need my running buddy so no more visits to the medic tent, ok?! You will figure this out, you will run another fast marathon, but taking some time off and getting healthy is your first priority.

Josse you are seriously amazing! The fact that you fought through that much pain speaks volumes about your mental strength. Congratulations!!

So glad that you're okay now. Your finish sounds so scary...and despite crashing you still finished in a solid 3:25. This marathon business isn't easy!

If you find a good witch doctor to fix your back, let me know!

Hey you looked really good when I almost ran into you.:) Good job today.

Geez josse, maybe you should have let them call an ambulance for you. you must be doing better now if you can write a race report. i am sorry the end sucked and. hope you can find the witch doctor you need.

Josse - I'm sure you'll make a come back and be your old speedy self again. It really stinks in the mean time though.

Thanks for all the kind comments, after the fact I don't think I was fueling myself properly. When I got home I realized my gu flask was still pretty full. not good for a hypoglycmic, silly I know and I am kicking myself know. live and learn right?!?

From allie on Mon, May 07, 2012 at 10:42:47 from 161.38.218.168

good job, josse. i'm sorry about the rough finish -- sounds scary and i am glad you are okay.

From julieesplin on Mon, May 07, 2012 at 11:10:57 from 75.169.176.89

Josse - It wasn't until after 8 miles that I realized I hadn't taken anything and then I had to really make an effort to remember. I think when your running the the same trail you train on it's easier to forget things like that. I didn't see a lot of the mile markers either.

From josse on Mon, May 07, 2012 at 11:33:45 from 166.250.163.33

Julie the only mile marker I remember seeing was 9. The course was alittle. confusing in spots too.

From Jake K on Mon, May 07, 2012 at 14:26:17 from 155.100.226.54

Glad you came out of that ok. Just wasn't your day... the finish sounds rough. I can't imagine going over that overpass hill while feeling that bad. Give yourself a little r&r now and get the injuries healed up and your body a break.

Look on the bright side, you had a really solid first 20 miles. You can't "fake" that. The marathon is just really tricky to get right.
