Personal:

I am married with 3 lovely children 26, 18, &12and a dog named Koda and a cat named Blue.  Love to run and be outside.  I believe that if you think you can do it and you work hard enough any thing is possible.   Life flashes by in the blink of an eye, enjoy it while it last and remember there is a lot more to life than running. I coach high school swim and love it!

I guess I will put something in here so you all can feel bad for me;)  This was one of the most horrible races for me.  Knowing that it was going to be hot I didn't have high expectations but still wanted to run well and though I could run and easy 3:30 marathon.  Had a fun bus ride up and hung out with Mckenzie, Rebecca, and Melody at the start.  It was already in the 70's and getting hotter.  I was drinking my prolytes and sitting in the shade all that we could.  it came time for all them to leave for wave one and i wanted to cry.  Sat there until it was my turn to go to my corral and was herded to the start.  i was in the 1st corral which was really cool to start up front, i was standing next to a girl that recognized me from the blog even know she's not on it.  Then we were off,  my plan was to drink gatorade at every water stop and dump water on me as well, it was already 78 and felt really hot to me.  i never felt good side cramps starting at mile 2, by 7 i was so hot despite feeling like I was at a water park and by 10 i wanted to be done.  My stomach was just bloating up from drinking and I was so thirsty I had to drink.  By 18 it was 87 and I was feeling so bad I started to walk, this was depressing but I made a decision walk or end up in the hospital and i didn't want to end up there.  I would go through times of crying, running, walking and just plain weaving but I wanted to finish so I just plugged on till I finished.  I am disappointed but do realize it was beyond my control.  It is what it is and am happy for my friends that did well because not very many people did.  my splits aren't worth putting up.

Awww, Josse - that was horrible - I wanted to cry just reading your RR! Those were definitely the most wretched conditions and I can't believe how tough you were to stick it out and finish NO MATTER WHAT. That shows what you are made of. You are strong and courageous.

I completely agree with everything Melody said. You are so tough and I am so impressed that you finished. I watched the local news after the race and there were so many people that didn't finish. It is truly crazy how awful the conditions were.

You will come back strong and the fact that you finished proves just how tough you are.

Josse, you finished. You did something 4000 people who deferred didn't even dare attempt. I know it turned out to be a very below average time for you, and definitely not what you were shooting for, but you'll bounce back. FYI, the average finishing time Monday was 30 minutes SLOWER than the last five years. The heat killed everybody. Since you are already nice and trained, jump in and run UVM.

Josse, wish I saw you-- I started behind you. I know we could have pushed each other in. It is nice to have a friend. The heat AND the NOISE was getting to me. A friendly ear and voice would have been nice!! It is best to walk in a race at times and save it for a better day!!! We were all running our own race that day--- some better than others-- fully hydrated or not. That's heat. Another person that was running with Kim and Jane for training came in well over 4 hours and Kim said she was going to run a 3:10 for sure. So I think that just finishing was the goal for the day :D. Hope I can train with you this summer after my time off. Recover well. :D.

I still couldn't see anything from your second message from your phone. You kept yourself out of the hospital because you were smart, that is big. I am glad you are safe and fine now. Perhaps you need to rewatch your youtube post to the left?

Love you!

That's weird that there was nothing there, smart phones are retarded. I know Michelle and I'll get over it and move on.

josse, if you are going thru postmarathon depression, I am with you. We will get over it. :D.

What a trooper you are!! I think you are just amazing. I've followed your training and know that this was just not your day! I'm glad that you are healthy and you were smart!! I wish I could just give you a hug and tell you how great I think you are :)

From Kelli on Wed, Apr 18, 2012 at 19:14:26 from 71.219.98.16

You are right, it is what it is! I really struggle when i am forced to drink like that (in the heat), so I feel for you. That is no fun!

I'm so sorry Josse! But you finished and that says alot! The conditions were brutal so don't get to down on yourself:) hang in there!

Hope you are feeling better today. :)

Can't wait to read your next race report which will be much different. :)

Hey Josse - I'm sorry it wasn't what you were hoping for. But it was a really rough day - hardly anyone ran anywhere near what they were capable of. You made the right call by deciding to dial it back and just get to the finish line in one piece, live to run another day! And there will be much, much better days ahead.
