I am married with 3 lovely children 26, 18, &12and a dog named Koda and a cat named Blue.  Love to run and be outside.  I believe that if you think you can do it and you work hard enough any thing is possible.   Life flashes by in the blink of an eye, enjoy it while it last and remember there is a lot more to life than running. I coach high school swim and love it!

Rough day for alot of us today.  Wind, rain, and cold temps made for a miserable day.  Legs just really did feel great form the get go, but like every year, they just felt very heavy after Veyo.  Felt good the first 6 and last 6 but just wasn't my day and I am ok with that.  I still PRed by a few secpnds and by 4 mins in the race.  (will add more details later)

I stayed at Marcie's friends cabin up in Pine Valley the night before and slept pretty good.  Had some really crazy racing dreams and heard the wind but did get about 6 hours of good sleep (very unusual for me before a marathon).  Woke up at 4:30 and ate some breakfast and got ready, none of noticed the rain until we left right before 6 am.  Bummer and it was still windy.  Drove to the start hoping the rain would let up driving down the mountain to the start, but it didn't.  Waited in the car until 6:10 and then we decided to go to the start.  Warmed up alittle and used the port-o-potties.  Started the race in my siglet, gloves, and a plastic bag to keep me dry;)  that really helped.  Started the race with the leg not feeling that great but wasn't to worried becuase it usually takes them a couple of miles to warm up but I was allready not hitting the pace I wanted-1-7:28,  2-7:22,   3-7:05.  I was running with a friend, Bruce and he was kind enough to block the wind for me through alittle bit.  The next little section I felt decent 4-6:58,  5-7:04,  6-6:34,  7-6:40 But still not hitting the splits I want.  Ok Veyo, this is where I feel like I lose it every year so I just took it really easy 8-8:27,  9-7:54  but could NOT get my legs back after this, very frustrating.  But tell myself to wait until half way and you will be able to run a big negitive split.  Dameron Valley killed my even more 10-7:48,  11-8:23  I can't believe what I am seeing, why can't I get my legs to move?!? 12-7:43,  13-7:21 halfway 1:38  Man o man this is just not what I was planning  and my legs just feel achey and non responsive, but I press on thinking maybe I can turn this around. 14-7:45,  15-7:02, 16-6:58  legs still not responding and I am wondering if this is all worth all my training and dedication, but still press on.  17-7:22,  18-7:10,  this is just crazy and the uphills just keep on coming 19-8:08, 20-7:31,  21-7:02,  22-7:39,  23-7:32,  24-7:18,  25-7:28,  26-7:42 and the last .2 I kicked in at a 6:38 pace and about feel on my face right before I got to the line.   The last 6 I didn't pay much attention to my watch and thought I was going alot faster than I was because I was passing so many people (still had a few pass me as well).  But I was able to keep a consistant effort and didn't feel to bad the last 6miles just really cold, wet and miserable.  As for meeting my goals I felt like I wasn't given a chance to run a smart race because I really didn't get to race it at the level I trained and I was NOT fun conditions.  I did PR in this race and in the marathon.  I didn't break 3 hours so that will have to wait for next year.  No top 10 finish :( but I am OK that I didn't do what I KNOW I can do and Paul T did beat me but that is alright as well, he ran a strong race:)  I did run a little negitive split.

From Jon on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 01:35:26

PR today? Wow, that's amazing. Subtract 10 minutes more and you know what you could do in good weather!

From dave holt on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 01:37:04

I don't know how you PR'ed today. That says a ton about your fitness and training. Good job Josse

From Paul T on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 02:07:41

In hindsight, I don't think today was a very good day for either of us to try the sub-3 thing. Ah well, what are you gonna do? Try again some other day I guess. I think you should also feel very good about a PR in terrible conditions. Great effort today!

From Christi on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 09:20:07

Hey- a PR is a PR!!! CONGRATS!!! It was ugly out there wasn't it? You did great!

From The Howling Commando on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 11:09:13

Way to go, Josse! Yeah we can't all have our best days every race. You did a sweet race though! Always good to PR :) Enjoy your day off today! You definitely earned this one.

From James W on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 12:08:46

I agree with the others - to PR on a day like today speaks volumes for your fitness and training. Congratulations on a great race in spite of the conditions!

From cgbooth23 on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 20:43:19

Good job on the PR, it was fun seeing you towards the end, i was the one who asked which FRB'r you were!

From Michelle on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 20:56:10

Josse you had a great race considering the day! So fun to finally meet you! you are just as nice in person as I would have guessed! The weather really changed our plans for the day so I'll try to hook up with you some other time!

Thanks for the offer though!!!

From Tom on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 21:35:40

Way to hang tough in those terrible conditions out there today. You are absolutely correct that we WILL get that sub-3 eventually. We've earned it and at some point justice will prevail, Mother Nature will cooperate, and we will receive our just reward.

From JulieC on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 21:47:14

Josse, looks like we struggle with very similar feelings of misery. Legs losing it after Veyo, not responding, feeling cold. But I will take your strong finish over mine!!! Instead of melting down you held on strong. That is the way to be. Your mind connected to your body and you ran awesome in those last miles!!! You are an inspiration. You should be proud you finished strong. It doesn't feel as good to lose it at the end. So Take a Bow. You ran well!!!!

From Andy on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 21:51:09

It was nice talking with you after the race. I love your attitude and approach to running. You can't complain about a PR on a day like that.

From James Holt on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 00:11:06

Great job on the run. It was quite a day. I wish I could have had some of your leg juice at the end. I was fighting mine hard those last miles. Might not have happened today but that sub 3 is yours for the taking.

From Cal on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 01:20:34

Great job Josse on a tough weather day. PR's are always good to set and I'm sure you'll destroy it next time!

From scotthughes on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 09:52:29

Josse, It was good to meet you the other day at the park. Great race given the conditions. This will be a marathon I will always remember, not because it was the first but because of the weather.

From Pinkie on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 10:49:54

Congrats on your PR! You are amazing!!!

From jtshad on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 10:56:40

Congrats on the PR in the tough conditions, way to run a strong race.

From mattk on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 11:35:17

Always nice to get a PR! Way to go Josse! If I can buck up and get outside during the winter, I'm sure we'll see each other on the trail. It was good to get to know you this year!

From Dustin on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 13:11:56

Great job on the PR, especially in the tough conditions.

From josse on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 15:05:21

Thanks everyone for all the support you have given me throughout the year. This was an interesting race and I think we have all learned a lesson-don't make mother nature mad. Fun times... fun times:)

From Mike Warren on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 23:53:57

Josse, now I will post you twice. Once on Paul rivertons by mistake. Hey, great job. I am very impressed with your time and new PR. Very tough race and still kicked butt. Sub 3 coming up shortly, AWESOME!!!

From lybi on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 00:26:08

Anyone who Pr'd under these conditions has my utmost--my UTMOST respect and admiration. Keep up the great work, Josse! It IS worth all your hard work and dedication, you just can't see it at this moment.

From seth on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 13:55:41

Great job in the "great" conditions. that is awesome to PR there. the next big marathon should be awesome.

From Dave S on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 19:44:01

From Brent on Wed, Oct 08, 2008 at 08:01:38

Stay Kool, Keep Smiling, B of BS Rools out

From ALI on Wed, Oct 08, 2008 at 11:01:34

Nicely done! I would love to run a 3:15 someday. YOur a strong runner Josse and you should be proud of all your accomplishments in racing this year.

From Adam RW on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 08:55:48

Nice race Josse. Way to stick it out in those bad conditions and get in a PR. A PR any day is good, but one in conditions like that is great!
