Personal:

I am married with 3 lovely children 26, 18, &12and a dog named Koda and a cat named Blue.  Love to run and be outside.  I believe that if you think you can do it and you work hard enough any thing is possible.   Life flashes by in the blink of an eye, enjoy it while it last and remember there is a lot more to life than running. I coach high school swim and love it!

I had such a plan for todays workout/race that went out the window in the race.  My legs just felt achy and non responsive so I just ran what I could on this hard course.  Pleased with the outcome, not exstatic but gives me confidence to get close to that 3 hour mark at SG.  And the pace felt sustainable for me.

Starated the day by myself with a miles and some bathroom time, then Michelle joined with some more miles and some more bathroom time.  The morning was chilly but great for racing.  Warmed up for 4.4 miles, stretched and started the race.  Legs felt fair but got achy around mile 6.5, the point where I really wanted to get fast.  It just wasn't there for me.

1-7:04 Good comfortable start

2-7:06

3-7:17

4-7:17 1st good uphill

5-7:02  take a hammer gel

6-7:31uphill

7-7:31rest of uphill with some down

8-6:48

9-7:07 just can't get the legs to turn over like I want them to.  Have this deep ache in my legs and low back almost to the bone.

10-7:09

11-7:04 Goal at this point was to get faster each mile.

12-7:01

13-6:52

.1-:31(5:00)

Cooled down a mile with Michelle and had to get home.  All in all I wanted to be faster but it was a great tempo on a hard course.

Foot was sore after the race but feels better after icing it.

One more high mileage week and then taper time:) yaa

Congratulations! That is a great time on a really tough course. You will do awesome at St. George!

Way to finish strong!

From MichelleL on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 13:07:24

This is a great workout for you and your last three miles should be a confidence booster. It will be exciting to see what you can do with fresh legs in St. G.

What's all this talk then about giving up SGM? Yeah right. You are the queen taskmaster engergizer bunny. I know the taper weeks will give you some fresh back. You have amazing tenacity Josse (the most adorable dominatrix I know)....P.S. I know I was a baby about the scraping-- but I did 22 today without so much as a twinge out of that middle connector thingy you scraped the heck out of. Unbelievable. Thank you.

Nice 3rd place finish and a strong time even when you weren't feeling it for the race. You ran strong and will do very well at SGM!

From Adam RW on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 14:25:29

Nice run and sorry that the foot continues to pester you.

From MarcieJ on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 14:30:52

Every race you have ran you have done it on high mileage, when you get fresh legs you are going come unleashed! Cant wait to see you and I have been using hammergel instead of the blocks and I really like it too!

From Bonnie on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 15:08:39

Great run Josse! Especially considering your foot woes (I can relate - after TOU 1/2 I limped for 2 days). You are going to rock at SG!

Thanks for the "take an occasional mental break" coaching tip. It really seemed to help me in this race.

I continue to be impressed with your mental and physical toughness. It seems like many races you've done this year have been on high mileage with some sort of injury or other adversity tossed in. Even so you, you've had a great year with many awesome performances. When your healthy and well-tapered, I foresee SGM being like UVM. You'll feel good, race smart, and have a huge PR. All that training and those many miles will pay off big time, especially after mile 20.

From Brent on Sun, Sep 07, 2008 at 14:50:09

Queen Josse, I read, the pace was sustainable? 6:52 pace for STG, you seem to have had an off day, darn good effort. Sometimes the measure of a runner is on the off days, not the on days. The Queen still Rools

Thanks everyone, and yes Brent on a good day and even yesterday I felt like I could have gone more just not faster. I am learning that races are what they are, a day at the end of a long week. I really hope and pray that my training will reflect in SG this year. We can not controll the day just how we handle what is thrown at us. I also hope and pray for each of you to get out of the marathon what you want:)

From cody on Sun, Sep 07, 2008 at 22:43:18

Another solid effort/race for you. You have set yourself up for a great SGM. This was only a stepping stone. Hold on for the next few weeks and it will come together.

From Cal on Mon, Sep 08, 2008 at 10:08:39

Great job Josse! You ran smart and finished strong. You will do awesome at St. George on fresh legs.

From Dale on Mon, Sep 08, 2008 at 10:11:51

A very consistent effort. Especially impressive since you weren't really "feeling it" that day. It's all going to pay off next month at SGM.
