Personal:

I am married with 3 lovely children 26, 18, &12and a dog named Koda and a cat named Blue.  Love to run and be outside.  I believe that if you think you can do it and you work hard enough any thing is possible.   Life flashes by in the blink of an eye, enjoy it while it last and remember there is a lot more to life than running. I coach high school swim and love it!

Well I was going to go meet Michelle but we got a big snow storm and she couldn't get out of her street so I went to the rec center and did the work out on the treadmill.  Started with a 2.5 mile warmup  then did 2*2 miles at marathon pace.  Started and ended feeling tired but felt all right in the middle, did feel better than yesterday.

1-13:37 (rest 4:51) 6:48 pace

2-13:27 was tired and want to stop at 1.5 but made myself finish. 6:43 pace

cooled down for a mile.

Josse, question? Very nice 2 mile repeats. I have often wondered what marathon pace runs mean? The pace you can now run a marathon, or, the pace at which you want/hope to run a marathon at. I think that I will try some 2 mile repeats next week at my hope to pace.

Nice workout, Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

I think it is the pace you would like to run your marathon at. I have been able to get mine down from a 7 min pace about a month ago to what it is know. That is a good question to put on the dicussion forum:)

Josse:

Lybi suggested I blog you on the whole scrap ya to death thing. I've got Achilles Tendonitis. Right now I've reduced my mileage, but plan on taking a few days off. I'm also stretching and applying ice. Its been like this for a week.

I use a tool I bought from www.guashaorthopedic.com I use this tool all the time and love it. It is what got ride of my tedonitis in my calf. It comes with a little booklet on how to use it and if you would like to talk to me I can give you my phone #. Just let me know. Also Ice followed by heat is the best for tendonitis.

Sure I would be glad to talk to you. I've got to get rid of this fast because I running in the Del Sol Relay.

Did you still run while your were have the

calf tedonitis or did you take a few days off while doing this treatment.

Josse - nice job on your workout! That's your first time averaging that fast for two miles or longer since your surgery, right? You are getting stronger! (and you are ahead of me on the mileage board - I will try to forgive you for that ;)).

Brent - I think marathon tempos can be anything between goal marathon pace and actual marathon paces. There are a couple of reasons for doing tempo runs 1) assessment of where you are, 2) improving (or maintaining, depending where you are) lactate threshold, 3) getting a feel for your pace, ok I can't think of any other reasons. So sometimes we don't know exactly where we are as far as what our current marathon pace is, but tempos can give us a better idea. Josse and I were discussing this last week, and I think anything within 20 sec of your goal marathon pace should be logged as a marathon pace mile on the blog. For a tempo run, I would think you would want to be at your "current" marathon pace or up to 15 seconds faster (goal marathon pace) for a long tempo. Shorter tempos are different and can be faster, of course (these would be threshold miles instead of marathon miles). Ok, that's my five cents. I have been thinking about it today because I did a slower "marathon pace" tempo run.

Kory- I was to the point where I had taken some time off, but I was also suffering from extreme siatic pain as well. I joined the blog while I was injured, I think it was late june when it happened, you can go back and look at what I did. When I started the scrapping I was able to start back running but it was a painful process. If in doubt take the time off know. If I would have heeded my bodies warnings it probably wouldn't have gotten so bad. Who knows though, I actually think it was more due to the tremdous amount of stress I was experiencing at the time.

Try doing some crosstraining that doesn't aggrivate the injury. I am a big believer in this to maintain fitness.
